Each $5 contribution will buy 2-3 pairs of socks
Throughout October, we will be taking all money raised to purchase socks and deliver them to Main Street Project.
Since August 2019, we’ve been making monthly donations to Main Street Project. We started by donating coffee, then we switched to a financial donation which allowed Main Street Project to use the money where they need it the most.
Now we're ready to change our focus to be more involved in donating much needed items such as socks, care packages, toiletries, Christmas gifts, etc.
And what a perfect time to start doing that by collecting socks for SOCKTOBER!
In anticipation of the coming winter months, Main Street Project (MSP) is asking for help in collecting 20,000 pairs of new donated socks during the month of October so that they can keep lots of pairs of feet dry, warm and healthy.
Main Street Project has many different kinds of sock needs - from folks coming into Protective Care with nothing on their feet at all, to their shelter community members needing a new pair of dry socks, to people living in transitional housing needing new socks. People experiencing homelessness are at risk of developing serious feet health issues including infections, ulcers, ingrown toenails, and nerve damage due to diabetes. Being exposed to the elements can cause frostbite. In severe cases, foot health issues can lead to serious illness and amputation.
Many of the folks served by MSP spend a lot of time on their feet, often walking several hours a day in ill-fitting shoes and they often don’t have access to a shower to clean their feet with the opportunity to change into clean dry socks. MSP wants to do everything they can to help keep these folks healthy over the coming winter months by being able to provide clean dry socks.
