As part of Banexport’s Farm Select program in the Cauca region of Colombia, this coffee was grown with a focus on quality in order to earn higher fixed prices for the smallholder producers. One of the biggest obstacles for coffee farmers is unpredictable income and unreliable payment. With a fixed price for their entire crop, producers are able to make plans and investment decisions for the future. Farm Select producers can grow their businesses more efficiently, effectively, and sustainably.

The Farm Select program is also committed to creating more equity for pickers who are among the most disenfranchised members of the coffee supply stream. Through this program, pickers are paid double the current going rate and have access to health care. The long-term goal is to establish a farm structure that encourages full-time positions for pickers throughout the year (fertilizing and pruning in the off-season), supporting a more sustainable system for everyone involved.
